Behind the Design: How Our Custom Collars Came to Life
The story of a small idea with a lot of heart (and a few charms).
Before the first Pawz Please collar was ever sold, there was just a dog, and an idea. Like many small businesses, Pawz Please started as a passion project. What began with one pet owner wanting something a little more personal for their beloved companion quickly grew into a brand dedicated to helping others do the same.
This is the story of how our signature customisable collars came to life, and how we’re continuing to build something meaningful for pets and their people.
It All Started With Our Dog
It began with Meme, our cheerful, attention-loving poodle with more personality than most people. She has a way of making herself known wherever she goes. We wanted a collar that could capture that spirit, something just as fun, expressive, and one-of-a-kind as Meme herself.
So the very first idea came from wanting a collar that was:
- Comfortable enough for daily wear
- Safe for dogs and durable for occasional adventures
- And could show off their name or personality, and be changed on the fly without changing the collar
We searched and searched… and nothing quite existed that hit the mark. So we set out to create it ourselves.
The Birth of the Charm System
Instead of opting for embroidery or fixed nameplates, we envisioned something flexible, a collar that lets you slide in letters and custom charms. This way, pet owners could change the look depending on the season, occasion, or just their pet’s mood.
Whether it’s:
🐾 Your pet’s name
😎 A cheeky word like “BOSS” or “TROUBLE”
❄️ A seasonal design like snowflakes or pumpkins
The collar becomes more than a necessity, it becomes a form of self-expression, for both pet and owner.
Our Design and Values
The hard part was getting an idea into action. We needed a plan. So we worked with local designers and artists to sketch up our idea, and take it to be trialed, samples, and tested until we got the collar just right.
In every stage, we’ve stayed true to a few key beliefs:
- Pets have personalities, and their collars should reflect that
- All pets deserve great design, so we wont stop until we achieve that
- Functionality shouldn’t compromise style
- Pet parenting should be joyful, not complicated

Working with Trusted Manufacturers
We don’t sew collars in a factory ourselves, but we do work closely with expert partners in the UK and abroad, who bring our vision to life. Through multiple rounds of prototyping, testing, and material refinement, only then do we pick out our final production partner. We ensure the final product met our standards for:
- Softness (gentle on sensitive skin and fur)
- Safety (secure fit, non-toxic materials)
- Customisation (perfect charm sizing)
- Style (bold colours, clean stitching, and a polished finish)
We tested designs on our own pets and worked through many tweaks before landing on what you see today.
What Makes Our Collars Unique?
We didn’t just set out to build a brand, we set out to solve a problem we had as pet owners. The fact that so many of you now use our products to express love, humour, and creativity through your pets is the best gift we could have asked for.
